T is for Tornado is an installation that continues the speculative themes initially explored in our 2024 project, Apocalypse Laboratories. That earlier work imagined an amusement industry experimenting with the commodification of cataclysmic weather phenomena, like tornadoes, hail, fire, flood, earthquake, etc., through the production of games, toys, and novelty items.

This new installation focuses solely on tornadoes. Designed as a pseudo-educational, tornado-themed “play station,” T is for Tornado imagines a child at play, staging miniature scenes of destruction using the provided collectible storm components on a modular racking system reminiscent of science fair displays. A toy remnant wall of storm-ravaged homes can be accessorized with materials from the debris kits, including roof insulation, snapped trees and branches, concrete rubble, and more. A tornado itself can be dissected and examined in the forms of a 3D Tornado Puzzle & Tornado Slices. A set of Hail Figurines is scaled and arranged according to the official classification system for hail sizes.
